Chris Brown a Rapper? New York Times Retraction!

Last week while leisurely reading Sunday’s NY Times, I came across an article entitled “When Publicists say Shh!”. The article featured R&B singer Chris Brown and his former publicists. After reading only few lines of the article I noticed an error. The first paragraph read “The rapper Chris Brown and his publicist parted ways on March 22, the same day Mr. Brown shattered the window of a dressing room during a violent tirade at “Good Morning America” immediately I re-read the sentence and thought to myself something is wrong. Chris Brown is not a rapper! He is indeed an R&B singer. The New York Times promptly corrected this error after I wrote a letter to the editor demanding a retraction. (http://www.nytimes.com/2011/04/17/fashion/17PUBLICISTS.html)

The term “Rapper Chris Brown” was not only incorrect but had a negative connotation due to the articles subject matter. Mr. Brown is recovering from an abundance of harmful press. Including but not limited to his domestic dispute with pop artist Rihanna. This use of the word “rapper” may appear minuscule however it is not. An objective party reading an article about a young man who has Tattoo sleeves on his arms, and bleach blonde hair may assume Mr. Brown is a criminal. Rappers are known for evoking bad press and many times the public views them as hoodlums, criminals, drug users/pushers etc. It was politically incorrect for The New York Times to slander Mr. Brown by referring to him as a ‘rapper’ when he is in deed a talented R&B artist

Tiger Woods! Can he get back to Golf?

Tiger Woods. A golf master made to look like a criminal for committing adultery? Not since the beginning of time has the masses ridiculed one for such an archaic crime. Publicizing infidelity is tasteless, and mass media has fabricated Mr. Woods current situation. Woods has changed the face of golf in more ways than one. He should not be observed as anything less than an extraordinary athlete.
During his speech woods appeared vulnerable and repetitive. Woods states he was foolish, and should make sure in the future he follows the same rules that apply to everyone. Apparently the speech may have hurt his career, because he was apologetic towards a personal issue. Tiger Woods plays golf for the world to see, his marriage is un-important to persons outside of his domestic sphere. After his speech many critics are now stating he should not have made a speech. Contrary to paparazzi hounding him on a constant basis, now that he has made a public appearance some say he shouldn’t have? Other sports players are praised for flashy cars and a plethora of mistresses. However golf being a more haughty sport and a different demeanor is expected. Too much racket is being created on account of Mr. Woods situation. Although he as put his family through shame, golf is the name of his game and he should get back on the course by placing his shenanigans behind him.

Will Medicine be the Cure for a Broken Heart?

Depression rates have increased significantly within the past two decades. The number of persons prescribed prescription medication as a result are highest seen in years. Medication advertised on T.V assist patient overdiagnoisg from their doctors. Current society depend on pills to fix issues in life as opposed to simply dealing with them on his/her own. High school students experiencing puberty become susceptible to tiny capsules that grantee to take away mental/social growing pains. Such strategies for peer pressure may develop into poor adult habits (taking pills are addicting and many times leads to other drugs). A few common types of depression are bipolar disorder, postpartum depression, and dysthymic disorder. Each form of depression contains different levels of severity. The most recent edition to the list is "Heartbreak-related Depression".
Alexa Ray Joel; daughter of celebrity Billy Joel, at age 24 was recently released from the hospital after an attempted suicide. Alexa was heartbroken over a break-up between former boyfriend/band mate. Singer Alexa Ray Joel has pledged to "help young girls with something I feel I know a GREAT deal about: Heartbreak-Related Depression." The young role model for teenagers all over America is allowing young adults to believe a break-up can lead to depression, which may be equivalent to therapist and medications. Disorders/depression can be extremely serious, however not all situations require such a description as "Depression-disorder". A term commonly used for "Heartbreak-related Depression" is "Puppy-love"; love between two young persons whom inevitably break-up. These types of relationships at tender ages of 12-21 end with an ode to a love lost, simplistic or poorly written love songs, and over indulging in junk food. Due to the new technical term "Heartbreak-related Depression" these relationships will now end with a trip to the therapist, and anti-depressant pills. The neo-relationship goers will not heal naturally from a broken heart, but artificially via pain pills.

Larger Salary cap for KNICKS but at What Cost to their Fans?

Mike D'Antoni head coach, has been drilling the Knickerbockers for two seasons. Knicks fans were, at first excited for the recuritment of former Phoenix Suns coach, are now agitated by his lack luster record (7-15). Prior to D'Antoni's arivial at Garden New York employed the most hated coach in the franchise; Isiah Thomas. Thomas began coaching in 2003. Ishiah produced a significantly better recored with the Knicks in his first two seasons in comparison to Mike D'Antoni's first two season. D'Antoni preforming poorly under less shrewd critisism than Ishiah, is a slam in the face to the large batch of 'Ishiah hatters".
The Knicks were and still need to play higher quality basketball; this Is common knowledge. Unfortunately great measures have been taken to ensure a future superior stating line up. The franchise has been saving money by trading players like Jamal Crawford, and Zach Randolph to make room for the fabricated grantee of LaBron James. Although the Knicks are saving money for next years salary cap, at what cost to the fans? With a recored slightly above New Jersey Nets (a godawful team this season) fans hopes for the play-off are non-exsistant. With room open for two all star player next season lets hope we can sweep these past two season under the rug. Contrary to hype around LaBron James as a free agent for next season; which is a considerable repetitive subject, 2009-2010 season is in progress lets focus on the NBA now!

PTDS; Recognize Symptoms from New War Vets

The Us troop Afghan speech given by president Obama ensured that 30,000 additional troops will journey to war. The country plans on spending 30 billion added dollars towards war efforts, this all while America is coping with a trillion dollar deficit. An array of public figures and dignitaries were appalled by the idea; prolonging war. However current war issues are not obsolete, forcing the Obama administration to finish the current war. The president quoted past president Roosevelt a great deal, and reiterated our countries morals. Attempts to give current soldiers hope and a will to fight. Brawny faces throughout the crowd of troops appeared troubled with thoughts of going to war. Many young Americans coming back from war are suffering for PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder). Nearly 30% of troops develop this disorder, but only 10% properly treated. Many do not seek help due to social effects and career set backs. PTSD is not a new disorder; to compare rates between wars is difficult, past war only survey soldiers 10-14 post war time, now they are tested on the spot.
Post war vets notorious for experiencing alcoholism, insomnia, and anxiety stresses, are sooner spotted panhandling after failed attempts at professional careers. Domesticity for many may can feel impossible or effortless. Young persons remembering parts of battles won or lost will return to us in the near future. Modern day society should be informed on what to expect from our soon to come war vets from Afghan/middle east. Young men and women one day will return, and hopefully the economic crisis will be non-existent, until then prepare for troops coming back with symptoms of PTSD and be informed.

No Tabaco in TriBeCa?

Smoking; once considered posh is now unsophisticated. The dirty habit is banned from all public buildings. Now its not permitted in the privacy of your own home? Apparently a tenant living in a luxury building located in Tribeca is being sued for secondhand smoke affecting the health of a nearby neighbor. The condo where the tenants reside allows smoking, but the persons at risk are trying to win $25,000 from the neighbor who enjoys a cigarette in the privacy of their own home. Bloomberg attempted to pass a law preventing smoking in local parks, this was quickly vetoed by outraged New Yorkers. The neighbor paying just as much rent as everyone else has the right to smoke freely in their apt, explained the plaintiff. The judge has not dismissed the case and the suit is still pending. Smoking is prohibited just about anywhere but in someones own house?
